Yesterday, we experienced the caboose of a series of winter storms– when I woke up this morning, you could have convinced me I was on the planet HOTH! That is even the moon setting over the icy surface…

Not one to waste a good weather event, I spent the entire day crafting– and I even had a ton of progress last week, to begin with. So, let’s go!

First up, a lovely finish. I cannot believe I tried selling this Little Box of Figs project multiple times on social media- I guess it was meant to stick around. I am now a fan of butterflies.

I must’ve listened to myself in the last post, when I said I should probably work on just one thing at a time!

Next up, “Moonbeams” progress– this is a free pattern on the Fat Quarter Shop website. Well, not exactly– they do want you to make a contribution to Make-a-Wish. The kit is still available, but stay sharp! They had it for 50% off around Christmas. I finished all 30 of the square in the square border blocks. I need a left facing dragon, and then it’s assembly time. It was my fervent hope that I exclusively work on this until it’s finished…

…but then “Brio” happened!

My friend Nicole, over at Sister’s Choice Quilts blog, saw this Frivols kit on my wish list in the last blog post and she has one! So we agreed to have a little stitch-a-long. We became friends when I noticed Nicole has many of the same tastes in fabric and quilt patterns that I do. She a wonderful enabler as well, if you know what I mean! I thought these kits were sitting on my shelf for three or four years, but she reminded me they are TEN. YEARS. OLD. Thank, you, Nicole! 🙂

I have to order background fabric, but I was able to make 32 little four patches to get started. The Frivols came in a tin and had a little tin as an extra present inside. Irresistible! It was a series of twelve projects– if you’re interested you can still pick them up on eBay for less than the original price, if you watch.

Here’s a sewing tip you might not want to hear– if anyone tells you quilt blocks should be FLAT– don’t listen! Judge a quilt block by matching seams and points, not flatness. This is so easy to accomplish when you press to the side and can nest seams– I did not even have to pin anything to get a perfect match on all of them.

If you “spin” your seams on four patch blocks, they do come out reasonably flat as well. You can now stitch-in-the-ditch for quilting, too.

I am now stuck waiting for my background fabric to ship– I chose a light gray with tiny stars and I hope it looks okay. Visiting quilt shops to see actual fabric is not too realistic on the planet HOTH.

The February “Year on Sugar Meadow” block is well underway– I did run outside for five minutes for some vegetation inspiration. This may not look like much to you– but I can already envision all the beautiful colors and shapes.

A couple of you assumed they would all be birds– no, that was “The Cloud Club.” Meet Chippie, our Chipmunk who lives in the wood pile and also in the eaves of our barn. There may or may not be twelve of him– unlike humans, they can clone. For my bird lovers– no worries. There will be plenty of them

Another weekend, another trip to Marden’s! We slipped out between storms. Last time, I resisted. This time, I did not resist.

I bought this ribbon for my “Chippie” block display– sheer ribbons are always so sophisticated– I have plenty of spools, but I don’t have this nude color. 🙂

Timeless Treasures batiks– $19.99. I haven’t used batiks in a while, but I’m thinking of getting them out. These are the colors of Sugar Meadow right now!

And then look at these cutest ever “color” fabrics!

I got 1/2 yards of all of them for $3.99. Just look at that jellyfish!

The cardinal!

The alien!

What a cute quilt this would make for a baby! I am currently priding myself on not going around acting like I’m the first person to ever be a grandparent. Notice how I did not even mention the butterfly quilt is for my upcoming grandbaby? But I must somewhat sheepishly admit the entire Marden’s fabric department now knows I have a granddaughter due in May.

What else did I do yesterday?

Scrapbooking! I did three pages on my snow day afternoon. I’m way behind on my goal to do “January” for each of my 2005-2015-2025 books. I’m giving myself to the end of February and I still still think I can do it and it makes sense. After all, I can’t very well do a January 2025 page until January 2025 is over, right?

I’m going to make a record of all of my projects each month, too. These two pages still need a bit of text. I’m not going to write a lot in this scrapbook — just short taglines for the photos.

If you want a book– just keep reading this blog! Although I have already looked into it, and you can convert your WordPress blog into a scrapbook with the click of a button. I may do this, just so when I am in the memory care unit, I can re-read all of it and ask Mr. SFO, “Did I know this idiot?”

So that’s all the silliness for this week– I hope you have today off and are inspired to go work on your own crazy and wonderful projects.

I haven’t posted on. my blog yet–I’m still on my three-day weekend, lol. I got all my fabrics cut out for Brio. Four patches are all done and pressed. I did the same as you and did the “spin” on my seams. The half-square triangles are made, but I have a heads-up: they all have to be trimmed. At least mine do. They came out slightly larger (and a bit crooked) than the 2 1/4″ called for in the pattern. So, that is going to take a minute to do. I am going ahead and making all the blocks. I think I will make myself a runner four or five blocks long and use the remaining four blocks to make a square table topper for my daughter. After starching my fabrics, the remaining fabric was not enough to cut the 1 1/4″ strips for the pieced border. Luckily I discovered a small project box of American Jane fabrics in my stash. This included charm squares and a honey bun that will be perfect for that border. Shop at home, right? Anyway, I am really enjoying this project and can’t wait to share more.

Looking forward to seeing Chippie. He/she is so, so cute!! I’m glad we don’t have a Marden’s close – looks like they have so many fun/neat “bargains”. Those Tonga Treats look wonderful. XOXO Dottie
